a giveaway: our autumn getaway kit!

Tuesday, October 1, 2013

“At no other time (than autumn) does the earth let itself be inhaled in one smell, the ripe earth; in a smell that is in no way inferior to the smell of the sea, bitter where it borders on taste, and more honeysweet where you feel it touching the first sounds."

-Rainer Maria Rilke

  12. My favorite scent (or, sensation with an accompanying scent, rather) is something I crave and miss terribly about late fall in Chicago. It's that full-body experience you get when you plunge into the frigid air for a mid-morning walk on a bright, cold, still day and your lungs fill up with what feels to me like pure icy exhilaration. It's stimulating and reassuring all at once. Those are my most contented days and having grown up in a place where it's 68 degrees out year-round that feeling/scent is 100% "fall" to me.

Oh, and rose. I just drank a latte this morning with fresh rose in it while walking around outside during a brief spate of sunshine and those scents and flavors combined are pretty special.

  20. I will tell you my favorite fall scent in terms of perfume. It is Opium, either the vintage version (especially the vintage version) or the new version. It is spicy, deep and earthy. Also a tea that I have been drinking lately which is great for fall is called Parisian Autumn from a wonderful little tea shop in Lititz, PA. Spicy and smooth.
